"As record custodians and their attorneys continue to navigate the murky landscape of the Open Public Records Act since its adoption nearly eight years ago, a myriad of requests often times presents public entities with challenging questions. Specifically, custodians often struggle with making "public record” determinations when OPRA law does not specifically except from disclosure seemingly confidential or privileged material. This action lab will explore all facets of OPRA, including exempted documents, valid requests and applicable fees including the "special services fee.” Participants will have the opportunity to examine documents and determine whether they fall into a valid exemption or whether they must be disclosed.
